Getting Started
What is Check Gluten?+
Check Gluten is an AI-powered app that scans ingredient labels and instantly tells you if a product contains gluten. Just snap a photo of any food label or paste ingredients — get a clear green (safe), yellow (caution), or red (contains gluten) result in seconds.
How does Check Gluten detect gluten?+
Our AI analyzes every ingredient on a food label, identifying over 500 known gluten-containing ingredients including hidden sources like malt extract, modified food starch, brewer's yeast, and dozens more. It also flags cross-contamination warnings and ambiguous ingredients.
Is Check Gluten accurate enough for celiac disease?+
Check Gluten achieves 95%+ accuracy in detecting gluten-containing ingredients. However, it analyzes ingredient labels — it cannot physically test food. For celiacs, we recommend using Check Gluten alongside certified gluten-free labels and always communicating with restaurants directly.
Can I use Check Gluten in other languages?+
Yes! Our AI can read and analyze ingredient labels in multiple languages. This makes it especially useful for traveling abroad or buying imported products. Just scan the label regardless of language.
Features
Does it work with photos of ingredient labels?+
Yes! Our camera feature uses OCR (optical character recognition) to read text from photos. Just point your camera at any ingredient label — the AI extracts the text and analyzes every ingredient for gluten. Works on printed labels, menus, and even handwritten ingredient lists.
What about cross-contamination warnings?+
Check Gluten flags "may contain" warnings, "processed in a facility" statements, and other cross-contamination indicators. These are shown as yellow (caution) results so you can make an informed decision based on your sensitivity level.
Can I use Check Gluten at restaurants?+
Yes! You can search menu items or ingredients by typing them in. While no app can replace asking the restaurant about preparation methods, Check Gluten helps you identify potential gluten sources in specific dishes and ingredients before you order.
Can I save products I've scanned?+
Premium subscribers can save their scan history and favorite products for quick reference. This is especially useful for building your personal database of safe products over time — no need to re-scan items you buy regularly.
What's the difference between green, yellow, and red results?+
Green means the product appears safe — no gluten-containing ingredients detected. Yellow means caution — there are ambiguous ingredients or cross-contamination warnings that need your judgment. Red means the product contains confirmed gluten-containing ingredients and should be avoided.
